Donations Greatly Appreciated

This past year, Baja suffered from several major hurricanes. We had heard reports of massive flooding north of Loreto and prepared to bring down donations of clothes and household goods to the communities that have been decimated by the storms. We succeeded in trucking down over 15 large trash bags of clothes, along with several bags of medical supplies.

In Agua Verde, a small, remote fishing community we work with every year, we succeeded in building a well-ventillated battery box for the school's solar system. This is very important as many solar systems fail in Baja due to poor management of the batteries. High heat in the summer causes shortages, and ruins batteries if they are not properly housed and cared for.

First Aid in Agua Verde

We also held a long-awaited basic first aid course. The entire town turned up for instruction. A Spanish copy of "Where There Is No Doctor" was donated and presented to the town and a lesson was given covering cuts, burns, breaks, sprains, and basic hygeine and sterilization. Thank you to everyone who donated medical supplies. Agua Verde now has a comprehensive first aid kit and some knowledge on how to use it.

Agua Verde Well Project

Last year we sought to raise funds to fund the Agua Verde Well Project. We have not yet made the goal, but the town still needs a proper well covering and pump. We are going to continue to collect money for this project in hopes that the 2008 student trip will be building it and installing the solar pump.
